How much does bathroom renovation cost in Ipswich?
We do not answer that with a figure, because no government source sets one. At that value the contractor needs a QBCC licence and home warranty insurance applies. The contract must be written, dated and signed before work begins, and the deposit is capped at 10% of the contract price. The costs page sets out what changes a job and the fees council sets, with the date each was read. The costs page's Bathroom renovation costs and rules check lists the Queensland and Ipswich City Council rules that apply at your job's value, each with its source.
Can I renovate a bathroom on a tight budget?
Whether the budget stretches depends on the drivers on the costs page, not on a published figure. Whatever the budget, once the job passes A$3,300 the licence line and home warranty apply, the plumbing still needs a QBCC licensed plumber and the electrical work a licensed electrician whatever it costs, and below A$11,000 including GST you do not need an owner-builder permit to run the job yourself.

Process
Is there such a thing as a bathroom renovation licence?
Yes, in a way: the QBCC has a builder licence class restricted to kitchen, bathroom and laundry work, and it stops at building work that may affect the structure. Over A$3,300 the contractor must hold a QBCC licence of the relevant class. Plumbing needs a QBCC licensed plumber at any value.
Who registers the plumbing, and what should I get from them?
For notifiable work the plumber registers it with the QBCC within 10 business days of issuing the invoice. The person who gives the notice to the QBCC must also give a copy to the owner or to whoever engaged the plumber. Ask for it.
Timing
How quickly can someone get to me?
We cannot promise a time. It depends on the provider's bookings. Form and phone enquiries are passed to a local provider, who contacts you directly.
My new shower leaks. How long do I have?
Building work that allows water penetration into a building is a structural defect. Under home warranty insurance a claim must be lodged with the QBCC within 3 months of noticing the defect, and structural cover runs 6 years 6 months for policies taken out since 28 October 2016. A non-structural defect must be claimed within 7 months of completion.
Permits and approvals
Does a bathroom renovation need council approval in Ipswich QLD?
Council says a building approval is required before starting most types of domestic building work, and its wording includes renovating. Its Building Certification team or a private building certifier can issue one, and whether a particular bathroom needs one is for the certifier to say. For a property in the Character Places and Areas Overlay, council may require development approval for certain works as well.

Which suburbs do you cover?
Ipswich. Four pages are written around a suburb's own census dwelling mix: Booval, Brassall, Redbank Plains and Springfield Lakes. The rest are covered on the same terms.
Do you do the work yourselves?
No. This site is run by a marketing company, which passes each enquiry to an independent licensed local provider. The provider inspects the room, quotes and does any work itself; we hold no licence and have no crews or plant.
